Sam brought the entire idea and process to Dairy Queen executives in 1983, they approved, and the rest is history! The company has cherished the bottoms-up concept so much that they ran a chain-wide campaign titled “Upside Down or Free” in 2016. The tradition is still applicable at participating locations.
Giving them their just due, the entrepreneur credits the old custard stand for his adopted brain child.
