The now 80-year-old Jack Nicholson is a man of many talents. He’s played tons of different roles as an actor and he’s also known for being a successful filmmaker. He’s been in the movie business for over 60 years, and he’s mostly known for his roles in films like The Shining, The Departed, As Good as It Gets, and Chinatown. While you probably know his face, only a super-fan would know all of these behind-the-scenes facts!
Jack Nicholson was actually good friends with his former next-door neighbor, Marlon Brando. Brando is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of all time, and you probably know him from movies like On the Waterfront,Apocolypse Now, or The Godfather.
When Brando died back in 2005, Jack bought his 3,040 square-foot house for over $5 million. However, he didn’t do what you would expect. Nicholson demolished the house and planted frangipani flowers where it stood. This was all done in a tribute to Brando, who nicknamed the house “Frangipani.”
Jack Nicholson is surprisingly a big art fan. He owns originals from painters like Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, Magritte, Bouguereau, Botero, and Rodi according to CNN. Nicholson apparently ranks 5th on the list of Hollywood’s greatest art collectors with his collection amounting to over $100 million! He’s got nothing on art collectors like George Lucas who has a $600 million collection or David Geffen with his incredible $2.3 billion collection, though.
Airing It Out
Apparently, in the ’60s, Jack wouldn’t put clothes on for anyone. Erik Hedegaard of Rolling Stone once wrote: “It’s where, in the late Sixties, as a matter of self-help, [Nicholson] spent three months walking around in the nude, at all hours of the day, no matter who stopped by, his daughter included.”
