The Jar Jar That Almost Was
Ahmed goes into detail with an anecdote about the time George Lucas took him and Natalie Portman to a concert where they met Michael Jackson backstage. MJ coveted the role of Jar Jar, but Lucas didn’t fancy the idea and wanted to take a CGI route instead, awkwardly introducing Best to the pop star as “Jar Jar Binks,” resulting in some major shade being cast.
It’s also interesting when Best reveals that, originally, he was only meant to be the physicality of Jar Jar for the pioneering attempt at CGI. After landing that role, he submitted some tapes of him reading Jar Jar’s lines, which ultimately caught the studio’s attention, and Best was given the entire role. Too bad he didn’t know then that the ability to speak doesn’t make one intelligent…
So should we expect to see Jar Jar in the future? Read on!
Will He Return?

Before The Force Awakens was released, rumors swirled that audiences might see Jar Jar return in the ongoing trilogy of sequels, so Stangroom asked the big question, “Could Jar Jar show up in a future film?”
“I think I’ve done my damaged,” Best replies, politely declining to even think about the idea. Still, Stangroom prompts him, “But if you were asked?”
“I’d say no. I’m not really interested in coming back. I think I did what I did and I thought it was great, and I thought it was fun, and I think now it’s time to move on.”
There you have it! Fans might be happy to know that we’re done with Jar Jar for good. You have to check out this video to hear it for yourself, and just wait until Ahmed reenacts a famous Liam Neeson movie scene in Jar Jar’s voice… gold.
