Imagine having a migratory animal who loves and appreciates you so much that he visits you once a year. Heck, I don’t even have relatives visit me that often. It seems like something out of a Disney movie, but believe it or not that’s the case with Jingjing and his human pal Joao Pereira de Souza who lives in Brazil.

It was five years ago that retired bricklayer Joao found a penguin drenched in oil on the beach near his home. Knowing the bird would perish on it’s own, Joao took the creature home, clean him up and fed him (sardines, in case you were wondering).

Joao named the penguin Jingjing. Once poor little Jingjing had regathered his strength, Joao took him back out to sea and released him back into his natural environment. Ever since, every year Jingjing heads south to mate, he makes a stop at Joao’s house. Sometimes he spends up to 8 months with his human pal.
