“Whatever, I’m Just Happy He’s My Brother!”
We could all stand to learn a lot from big sister Ace Eicher — because sometimes viewing the world through the eyes of a child is exactly what we need. Ace is the perfect name for this little girl who is wise beyond her years. What makes her so awesome?
Ace can’t get enough of her brother Archie, an adopted child with Down Syndrome brought into Eicher family from Bulgaria when he was younger. Ace insists her brother is just like any other brother she could have, or better yet, that he’s “the best brother in the whole world” because of his differences.
This bro and sis seem inseparable, and do everything together, from going to the park and playing in the pool with their buddies to taking some time to eat ice cream (necessary!), and while Archie might get on Ace’s nerves occasionally, their love for one another shines through in such a beautiful and earnest way.
So what actually makes Archie different? At Ace’s age, it doesn’t seem to matter.
“My mommy tried to explain it to me, but I don’t still understand,” Ace says.
Ace (with the help of her mommy) created this video several years ago in commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day, which takes place every year on March 21st. Since it was posted in 2012, the sibling love letter has received almost 3 million views, each one serving as a poignant reminder that it’s always our differences that make us special.
Be sure to SHARE Archie and Ace’s love with your sibling.
