As Dyson once explained on his website, fans have a unique love for R2 unlike any other.
“The love for R2 is universal; no other Star Wars character has been loved over the years the way R2-D2 has, his merchandising has rocketed over the years and his influence in the world of robotics is truly remarkable.”
Dyson also worked on films like Superman II, Dragon Slayer, and Moonraker. He was once nominated for an Emmy for special effects. Outside of the world of movies, Dyson also built robots for companies like Sony and Toshiba, as well as for TV and amusement parks.

Forever a part of one of the world’s most unique, recognizable, and beloved franchises, let us remember Tony Dyson as Yoda said best:
“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.”
