R.I.P. Tony Dyson: R2-D2 Creator Dies at 68

As Dyson once explained on his website, fans have a unique love for R2 unlike any other.

“The love for R2 is universal; no other Star Wars character has been loved over the years the way R2-D2 has, his merchandising has rocketed over the years and his influence in the world of robotics is truly remarkable.”

Dyson also worked on films like Superman II, Dragon Slayer, and Moonraker. He was once nominated for an Emmy for special effects. Outside of the world of movies, Dyson also built robots for companies like Sony and Toshiba, as well as for TV and amusement parks.
