The Cameos Are Always Big and Bangin’

Since 2007, The Big Bang Theory has filled out televisions with delightfully geeky antics, superb scripting, and a unique sense of humor that has captivated millions of fans over the years.

One of the best parts of the show is the varied cast of characters, but not just the main ones. TBBT is famous for its countless cameos from famous real-life geeks and actors that lend an air of awareness and reality to the show that few other programs can compete with.

Let us know in the comments which one was your favorite, and SHARE with your fellow fans!

Start the slideshow below to see to best Big Bang Theory cameos from across the years.

1. Stephen Hawking

After trying to get the famous cosmologist on the show for some time, Hawking first appeared in season 5, and has returned to grace the set of TBBT several times. I love the comical role he always plays, secretly bullying the gang even when he seems so innocent.

2. LeVar Burton

In his many and varied roles, LeVar Burton always delivers. From Roots to Reading Rainbow to Star Trek, it feels like Burton has already played great parts on TV. His cameos on Big Bang have been no different.

3. Steve Wozniak

Go figure they run into “the Great and Powerful Woz” at Cheesecake Factory. Sheldon looks up to Apple’s co-founder and they discuss their mutual interests. I cracked up when Wozniak calls them nerds before leaving.

4. Stan Lee

I love me some Stan Lee. In his cameo episode, the boys get to go see him at a comic signing, but Sheldon has to miss out and go to court (thanks to Penny). The whole time, we’re left wondering if we’re going to see him or not, but then he appears in all his glory, and a Fantastic Four robe to boot.

5. Bob Newhart

Famed comedian and actor Bob Newhart won a Daytime Emmy for his cameo on The Big Bang Theory in the guest star role of Professor Proton on several episodes. Want some Newhart? We could see more of him in the future!

6. Katee Sackhoff

Katee has some of my favorite recurring cameos on Big Bang. As Howard’s fantasy girl, the Battlestar Galactica actress has appeared a couple of times to give him advice, usually in his love life.

7. Neil deGrasse Tyson

One of the best things about cameos on this show is that they blend reality with fiction. On deGrasse Tyson’s appearance in season 4, Sheldon scolds him for the hand he played in Pluto’s infamous demotion from planet to dwarf planet. We’re still angry, too, Sheldon.

8. Bill Nye

Oh Bill Nye, how I love thee. When “The Science Guy” appears in season 7, his storyline is related to Bob Newhart’s. Nye ends up befriended Sheldon, the lucky devil.

9. Buzz Aldrin

In season 6, a fake video of Aldrin taunting children is used to passive aggressively tell Howard that no one cares about his space exploits. He’s so hilariously mean in it. “What have you done?”

10. Wil Wheaton

Another Star Trek alum to appear on the show, I love the “relationship” between Wil and Sheldon, AKA enemies. Their interactions crack me up.

11. James Earl Jones

I really love this episode. Sheldon lucks out and spends a night on the town with James Earl Jones. They get into all kinds of shenanigans before Jones eventually takes all of Sheldon’s friends to Comic-Con.

12. Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher’s cameo on Big Bang goes hand in hand with James Earl Jones’s, and together they make for an unforgettable episode. On the episode, Jones has told Sheldon that Carrie Fisher has gone senile, and they play ding dong ditch at her house. She comes running out with a baseball bat and makes for some TV gold.

13. Brent Spiner

Star Trek: The Next Generation is typically considered the franchise’s most popular TV season, and Data is easily one of the most recognizable characters. In his cameo, Spiner crushes Sheldon’s spirit when he opens the mint condition sealed box of a limited edition action figure, therefore ruining its worth.

14. George Takei

Another one of numerous Star Trek actors to make a cameo in TBBT, George Takei also plays a fantasy figure in Howard’s mind and appears alongside Katee Sackoff in season 4. Takei’s homosexuality is teased at during the episode as it implies that Howard, too, might have some gay tendencies. The King of Quips, Takei insists he knows about women because he reads a lot. Gotta’ love it.

15. Leonard Nimoy

Rounding out the beloved Star Trek actors that have appeared on the show, the late great Leonard Nimoy had an ingenious cameo as the voice of Sheldon’s Spock action figure.

This November, Nimoy’s son Adam will also make an appearance on The Big Bang Theory.
