Now, instead of bagpipe music, the station loudly plays Christmas music from Alvin and the Chipmunks to make it difficult for homeless people to sleep there overnight.

Known for their high-pitched voices and shrill banter, residents have said that the town “council should be finding a solution to help the homeless […] not drive them away.” A local protestor also cited that “playing annoying, loud music at the travel interchange is in no way a solution as it will simply move the homeless people on to another area in the town.”

Comparing the piercingly melodious sounds of the Chipmunks to the type of musical torture that prisoners endure at places like Guantanamo Bay, many citizens are appalled at how the town has decided to treat the homeless population instead of using their resources to better their situation during the holidays.

I grew up listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas music, but this just sounds so wrong to me. There’s no way anyone could last for more than one album of those singing rodents, especially after midnight.

The town has since vowed to discontinue the music and look for other ways to make the station feel safe at night.
